How Does This Affect My Family...

If the Bible is true in every way…

Then we are responsible to obey the truth it teaches. If it is just a good book or a historical classic, then we can read it, admire it, agree with a few proverbs, and (yawn) put it back on the shelf. But — if it is true, then we must obey it and listen to it and teach it to our children.

If there is only one true God…

Then other explanations of life and death cannot be true. This flies in the face of those who want to believe that everyone is entitled to his or her own opinion. If there is one God, then we are accountable to Him. This means we will answer to Him how we parent and how well we maintain our marriages.

If Jesus is really God’s Son…

Then He is the only way to heaven, just as the Bible teaches.

If the Holy Spirit really exists…

Then He can live in our hearts, transform us into “new creations,” and transform our families as well!

If God created humans and we didn’t come about “by chance”…

Then we are precious to Him and dearly loved. He created us in His image and wants to make us just like His Son, Jesus.

If children are born with a “sinful nature”…

Then we parents need to recognize that even a sweet little baby has to potential to do wrong things. It is the parents’ responsibility to train a child and to show by their godly example how to live a holy life.

If we can only be saved from sin by grace…

Then no matter how many good works we do, we will not be able to please a holy God. It is only by His graciousness and love for us that He sent His Son, Jesus, to pay the penalty for our sins on the cross. We can only receive the gift of eternal life by trusting in Jesus — not by good works.

If my church teaches something different…

Then we need to check our Bibles for God’s opinion. In the eternal scheme of things, only what God thinks counts. We also need to teach our children what God’s Word says so that they can learn to think like God thinks. (Maybe it would be good to find a better church…)

If there really is a heaven and hell…

Then we know there is more to this life! We need to search God’s Word, the Bible, for answers on how to obtain heaven and avoid hell. We shouldn’t wait until it’s too late, either!

If Satan truly exists…

Then we can be sure he would like nothing better than to see our family destroyed. We need to learn what God’s Word says about how to fight Satan and avoid the temptations he brings us.

If we are characterized by love and good works…

Then others can see our family’s lives and wonder what makes us tick. We don’t need to “cram” our religion down their throats. Instead, we need to show them by our love that we have Christ’s love in our hearts. Then, when they ask us why we have so much hope for the future, we can tell them!

If we listen to the advice of “experts” who don’t follow God’s Word…

Then we allow bad information into our minds. If we follow this advice, we (and our children) will have to pay the consequences. Only God’s Word will stand the test of time, and we can depend on His advice for us and our family.
